JOURNAL #3
TEACHING PRACTICUM II
INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH I
TEACHER ANA ELISA JIMENEZ
Today´s class was interesting because the students were running and pasting some words on the board at the beginning of the class. I thought that they could have problems because we were working with countable and uncountable nouns, and these things are kind of confused for them. But while they were working in groups, they were helping among them, and finally they could finish the activity.
In the lesson plan, there was an activity that I didn´t like, and I didn’t understand well. They were confused, and they couldn´t work on it, and I had to change that activity into one that I took to the class. There was another thing that was not so well. It was the time because it was not enough for the activities I took to the class and I could not finish with all the activities. Another thing that I did not like so much was the classroom because it was too small and there were too many students. We did not have enough space to do the activities.
I think that my objective was clear for the students because they were able to do all the exercises I asked them to do. They were able to create their own sentences using countable and uncountable nouns. I used a variety of materials during the class to make them apply countable and uncountable nouns. I used some pictures in the class and other visual aids to make the students understand the topic better. I wanted to use more activities, but the time was not enough.
The students were working orally the more because teacher Ana Elisa asked me making them work in oral form because they do not like speaking English too much. While they were working in the exercises I provided, they spoke English because they were practicing some sentences with key words I gave them. I made them work in pairs, so that they shared their answers orally.
If I teach that lesson again, I will change some activities and some exercises because there were some activities that took too much time, and at the end, I could not finish them.

Eduard I understand your point in relation to the space that students have in their classroom; it is kind of hard to make some TPR activities because the rooms are not big enough, so students cannot move easily. I consider that TPR activities motivate students to practice, and I am aware of that because I work with the same group; sometimes students get to the classroom very bored, so an activity like that help them to get involved in a nice atmosphere.
ResponderEliminarCongratulations Eduard I admire the way you work…
As I can see you are trying to improve your classes day by day. Congratulations!! I really like the way you said you worked with the group of students. The use of visuals and other kinds of didactic materials are very important because in that way students can understand better what the teacher says.
ResponderEliminarI consider that you have been having problems with the space you have in the classroom. Well, sometimes we as teachers have to deal with those aspects.
I don't know if it is possible to go out of the classroom and do some activities outside, then you can return to the classroom to continue with your class as usually.
It is just a suggestion, but i don't really know if you are allowed to do it.
Great job, Edward. Nice work!!
Eduardo,
ResponderEliminarBringing visual aids to the class is always a good idea. In relation to the size of the classroom, It is always a problem we have because some classrooms are not big enough for our groups. I hope we can solve that problem some day!! However, I can see that you are doing a good job motivating the students and encouraging to practice their English.
I would suggest you to be careful if you want to bring your students outside the classroom because the other teachers can complain about the noise of your students.
Congratulations fro your great work!

Hello teacher Edward!!
ResponderEliminarWell, you mentioned that you had problems developing some activities and also with the time. I think that most of us are having the same problems. When I have to teach in a small classroom, the students complain that they do not have enough space and therefore, they lose motivation. Time is also another problem because in most of the activities, students need more time than the one we have programmed to use.
You said that teacher Ana Elisa suggested you to include more speaking activities. I think that it is a great opportunity for students to use the target language in the oral form.
congrats teacher Ed!
