JOURNAL #4
TEACHING PRACTICUM II
INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH I
TEACHER ANA ELISA JIMENEZ

It was my fourth class and I was happy because it was another experience about teaching.

 Something that I want to talk about the lesson that went well was that I felt motivated because the students showed interest for the class and as the other classes, they were participating a lot. I noticed that the students liked the way I was explaining the class because they were working in every single activity.

 Something that didn’t go well was that the teacher asked me for working only in the book and not with extra material because she had not advanced with the book. I felt bad because I did not use any other source to teach, just the book.

 All the students were kind of bored for a while because they were working just with the book. Despite they were kind of bored, they worked and participated.

 I used a few activities in the class, and some materials, but I didn’t use the board too much, and I didn’t use pictures. They were working in the book and in an oral activity related to a reading that was in the book.

 I could manage the time correctly, and I could work very well with them. The students worked in pairs and individually. There were some students that could not understand some words from the reading, and they started asking me for the meaning of those words and finally they could work without any help.

 If I teach that lesson again, I will use a lot of materials because I noticed that when a teacher use different kinds of materials, the students pay more attention and the class is more meaningful. I will also try to write some difficult words that appear in the book on the board and make them look for the meaning of each word. I will also try to make them give their own opinions about the reading that was studied.

  1. Edward, I understand what you had to face in this class. It is always hard to make students work on their text books. It has happened to me. They feel like bored when they know they have to work in that way. Mybe we must look for a way inwhich we can help them to see "this work" differently.

For the rest of your class. I think it was nice. Remember that the material does not teach if the teacher doesn't know how to teach with aims, pictures or charts.
The real tool that really works is the teacher himself.

Nice job Edward. I liked the way you worked in this class.
