Teaching Practicum II
Intermediate English I

This class was interesting because the students were running and pasting some words on the board at the beginning of the class. I thought that they could have problems because we were studying th. These things were kind of confused for them. We were studying the use of “going to”and “will” while they were working in groups, they were helping among them, and finally they could work in all of the exercises.
Something that didn’t go well was that the teacher asked me for working only in the grammar face. At the beginning, the students were a little bored and some of them were not focused in the class. Also some of them arrived late as always, and they did not understand what they had to do in the exercises.
I think that my objective was clear for the students because they were able to do all the exercises I asked them to do. They were able to create their own sentences using “going to” and “will”. I used a variety of materials during the class to make them apply the modals going to and will. I used some pictures in the class, and other visual aids to make the students understand the topic better. I wanted to use more activities, but the time was not enough.
The students were working orally the more because teacher Karen asked me for making them work in oral form because they do not like speaking English too much. While they were working in the exercises I provided, they spoke English because they were practicing some sentences with key words I gave them. I made them work in pairs, so that they shared their answers orally.
If I teach that lesson again, I will change some activities and some exercises because there were some activities that took too much time, and at the end, I could not finish them. Another thing I will do is that I will carry out more activities to the class to make it more interesting and funnier, and in that way students will be more focused and they will participate actively in all of those activities.

ResponderEliminarYou mentioned that the students arrive late to the class. I think that this is one of the problems teachers face when they do not set the rules from the very beginning of the semester. I know that this is not your fault, but anyways it affects your grade!!
We have to pay attention to the situations we see in these groups. In this way, whenever we have these problems, we will already know what to do!!

ResponderEliminarThis is a great topic for the students. I think that you are doing a good job and you are growing as a teacher. We have to keep working on the punctuality of the students since they are learning a language and a culture, and they have to know that people in that culture value time andare very punctual.
I`m still wondering how to make the grammar not only easier,but also funnier teacher Edward. I know that it is hard to teach grammar and the thing is that this is the most important phase in the lesson or in the class. I know you`re doing a great job, because I have heard some comments about your class.And I also can see that you are enjoying this class and this group.
ResponderEliminarYou mentioned something about the exercises we develop into the class. There is something that a good teacher suggested me long time ago. This teacher told me that we have to balance the importance of the exercises in order of giving the proper time that the activities requires. We have to be careful when assigning time for the activities because sometimes we spend too much time for exercises that require just a couple of minutes and we don't spend enough time with the exercises that need more time. We are in the way of learning and every piece of advice we receive should be put in practice. let's continue learning.

ResponderEliminarStudents almost always arrive late to classes. I guess it is kind of difficult to work with people if they are not on time as we wish, but you must keep in mind that you must establish your rules since the very beginning with the group you are going to work with. The same happened to me, but I used to repeat in the classes that they had to be there on time. It really worked for me because the last class only one person arrived late. The challenge here is that you must be the model that your students have to follow. If the teacher asks students to be on time, The teacher must be even earlier than them.
Something that I really liked about your class was the activity you mentioned at the very beginning. I guess they not only had fun, but also they learned soemthing new at the same time.
